Review: On the paradise island of Thinadhoo lies the Plumeria Boutique Resort, an affordable half way point between the super expensive private islands and the much cheaper local guesthouses.

We stayed in the Plumeria Resort for 4 nights. You can also opt to stay full or half board, but if you want to look after your budget then B&B is the way to go. It is much more expensive than the island guesthouses but you may want to consider a few days here whilst in the Maldives.

The Plumeria Resort was amazing and its lovely grounds included:

  • Restaurants
  • A Pool
  • A Gym
  • A Watersports Centre
  • A Dive Centre
  • An outside eating area
  • Beachfront Hammocks
  • Outdoor table tennis tables
  • An indoor pool table

But if you are reading this, you probably only care about one of those: The gym. The good news is that for a hotel gym, the gym here is actually pretty good. This gym has air conditioning and fans too, meaning that it doesn’t get too hot, despite the glass walls along two sides of the gym.

The equipment here is pretty new and is all in good working order. There is some cardio equipment and some weights to choose from, so everyone should be able to get a decent workout with a little creative thinking.

Equipment wise the gym has:

  • Dumbbells up to 25kg
  • Adjustable bench
  • Fixed weight bar up to 20kg
  • Lat pulldown
  • Seated low row
  • Adjustable cable
  • Treadmill
  • Static bike
  • Rowing machine
  • Dips bar / leg raise platform
  • Bosu ball
  • Mini swiss ball
  • Yoga mats
As well as this the gym also has its own toilets, lockers and showers which are all clean and well kept.

Who is this gym for? Honestly, this gym is on of the better hotel gyms that I found on my travels. What holds it back is the lack of a bench press or Olympic bars. The limit of 25kg dumbells and 20kg fixed bars mean that heavy benching, deadlifting or squatting is out the window, so get ready for some high rep sets to make sure you feel the burn. Overall the gym is clean and professional and I would recommend it to anyone looking to maintain whilst on holiday. Aside from that, it is pretty much the best you are going to get in this part of the Maldives anyway…

Tips: There is no water fountain here so you will need to remember to bring a bottle with you. There is also no chance of finding supplements on Thinadhoo, so you may want to make sure you stock up before you go. You can find out where to buy supplements in Male by clicking here.
