Review: Whilst the concept of a 24 hour gym is pretty common in most parts of Europe and the US, its an idea that doesn’t really seem to have caught on in Asai. This may be perhaps in part due to the lifestyle of early nights and early morning that seems to persist in most South East Asian countries.
Singapore however, has never fit the same mould as its neighbours. The amount of people looking for gyms in Singapore seems to be higher. As an international centre of finance, and somewhat of a beacon of western culture in the region, its patterns and lifestyles are different. It would make sense then, that the first 24 hour gym I found on my travels would be located here.
Aptly named, the Gym, its a modern feeling gym, with floor to ceiling glass walls, flooding its white interior with light during the day. When the guys I met working in reception could have easily passed for bodybuilders, I knew this gym was going to be somewhere I could lift heavy. And I wasn’t disappointed.
Unlike many of the other gyms in the city, this gym had heavy dumbbells, olympic bars, benches and a squat rack! Thank god, as I had been dying to get in a heavy workout for the last few days.
Equipment wise this gym has:
- Dumbbells up to 50 kg
- Adjustable benches
- Flat barbell bench
- Squat rack
- Olympic bars
- Pull up bars
- Dips bar
- Cable crossovers
- Lat pulldown
- Seated low row machine
- High cable machine
- Chest fly machine
- Leg press machine
- Leg curl machine
- Leg extension machine
- Cross trainers
- Static bikes
- Yoga mats
- Ab wheel
The gym also has air condition and wifi. The changing rooms, showers and toilets, were clean and smelt ok, even if they were a little cramped. Bring your own towels if you want to shower here though.
After my workout I got chatting to the guys working downstairs. They told me there were plans to build a supplement shop on the ground floor, so keep an eye out for that in the near future.
Who is this gym for? This gym has a nice, clean and professional atmosphere. It is also near the main road making it easy to get there in an Uber or Grab. I would say that this gym is suitable for everyone and lifters of all ability levels. A great little find!
Tips: The gym does sell day passed, but these are only available from 1pm to 9pm, when the reception desk is manned. The rest of the time, members gain access using a passcode to unlock the electronic doors, so if you want to head there as a traveller it needs to be between these hours.
